The Freestyle program encompasses both mogul skiing and park skiing and is designed to teach fundamental aerial, terrain park and mogul skiing techniques. A typical day of Mogul / Freeski training includes morning session skills development and drills. The afternoon session will focus on individualized guided skills. Travel and competition is encouraged but not required. The program meets Saturday’s and ski PE days. We will begin the first weekend in December and end the second weekend in March.
Goals:
– Provide fun but structured training to give athletes the skills they need to be the best all-round skiers on the mountain
– Prepare recreational and competitive freestyle / freeski skiers for Southwest Freestyle Tour, USSA and USASA competition.
– Create additional training opportunities like hockey, trampoline and summer training to foster a competitive ski / athlete culture.
Program pricing is based upon on-snow training days. Travel training and competition coaching have additional expenses to cover coaches housing/travel. Programs 7th grade+ include dryland Oct – December.
All programs include bonus holiday training (check individual discipline calendars for schedules). Travel programs (4th grade+) include cost of coaching for travel training days, competitions*, and for 7th grade+ pre-season dryland training.
Note: Additional travel fees apply.
This is a Junior Development Series (13 yrs and younger) and it is the introductory level for freestyle skiers in the Rocky Mountain Division. These are great events for junior competitors—Devo has one jump and no speed points. RQS has two jumps and no speed points. Ski areas such as Purgatory, and Winter Park, among others, will host these events.
These events are tailored more towards experienced competitors traveling to events statewide that eventually lead to divisional championships. In contrast to RQS/ DEVO events, jumps are bigger and there is more emphasis on speed at these competitions. Planning ahead with the program director and head coach is crucial to the success of athletes choosing to compete in this arena.
The Park program places an emphasis on jumping and safety as athletes learn to use the Hoot Brown Terrain Park, and existing natural features on the mountain to master various aerial maneuvers, while encouraging creativity and personal style. Directed free-skiing on the entire mountain remains the basis for learning turning technique. Competition is not obligatory; however athletes interested in competition have the opportunity to compete in USASA competitions. Dryland training is highly recommended.

Directed free-skiing on the entire mountain remains the basis for learning turning technique.
