Competitive Team

Comp Team:
Run by Wayne Clark and Ruthie Boyd
Practices Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and many Saturdays
Ages: U16-U20 Skiers, including some committed U14 skiers
Dates: November 11-March 6th
The comp team will focus on the endurance, strength, and technique needed to compete in JNQs. Racing at the JNQ races is encouraged but not required. These athletes need more time on a variety of terrain so Saturdays and approx. 2 or more weekdays will be spent on trails at Priest lake, Trout Lake, and Mountain Village. Transportation will be provided whenever possible. The following dates are for the JNQ races. Some hotel rooms have been reserved and we hope to offer team transportation as much as possible. These are really fun events where racers of all abilities are supported and team bonding is encouraged. While the competition level is high all the teams across the state also have skiers at a variety of experience and ability. The Rocky Mountain Nordic JNQ Race Dates (As much as possible we will travel the day before to preview the race courses.):
JNQ1: Dec 20-21 (Friday and Saturday) Steamboat
JNQ2: Jan 17-18 (Friday and Saturday) Soldier Hollow.
JNQ3: Feb 1-2 (Saturday and Sunday) Aspen
JNQ4: Feb 15-16 (Saturday and Sunday) Crested Butte
Junior Nationals: March 7th-15thSoldier Hollow
Development Team:
Run by Ailish McDonald and Lily Engebretson
Practices Days: Monday 3:30-5, Thursday 3:30-5, and approx. 6 Saturdays
Ages: U10-U14 Skiers
Dates: Dec. 9th-March 6th
The development team will focus on technique and skill development through stations, games and individual instruction. Monday and Thursday practices will be held on the valley floor while Saturday practices will be at Priest Lake so kids can get more experience on a variety of terrain. These athletes will be encouraged to ski at citizen races in Telluride, Durango, Pagosa Springs, and Crested Butte and possibly the RMN U14 Championships. At this point we know that the Telluride Butch Cassidy race will likely be on Feb. 8 and we will have a schedule for other races as soon as they are released. These races are a lot of the fun, support the growing nordic community, and give parents a chance to participate too. Kids on the development team can choose to ski in any of the JNQ races as well.
