Freeride Big Mountain Program

Grades 7-12

Program Director: Ryan VanNuys, freeride@tssc.org, 970.485.1836

Freeride, also known as Big Mountain skiing, is the fastest growing form of competitive skiing in the world. Athletes are given the freedom to train and compete on some of the best “EX” terrain Telluride has to offer. Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club has split our Big Mountain programming with “Freeride” programs designed for competitive or potentially competitive athletes and “All Mountain” Programs designed for purely recreational athletes.  While there is a small bit of overlap with coaches and athletes, these are largely designed as two separate programs.    Competitive programs demand a bit more commitment from the athletes, with a slightly longer season and more days on snow.

Champ FREERIDE: Two-day program (Plus Ski PE)

Our Freeride Program is designed of competitive athletes, grade 4 and older.  We offer coaching on Saturdays and Sundays from the first weekend of December to the end of March, along with Ski Pe and high school early release skiing for those that can make it happen.  For athletes grade 7 and older, e ask for at least a Saturday/Sunday Commitment for our competitive athletes.  If this doesn’t work due to other commitments, please submit a written request to the Program director for an exemption.  freeride@tssc.org

Freeride programming includes all competition “coaching” days, but does not include travel costs associated with events.  Athletes attending a given event will be asked to reimburse the coaches travel cost at that event.
