The Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club (TSSC) is looking for an experienced cross-country coach to lead its Junior Nordic Race Team.
The Junior Nordic Race Team is a small but passionate Nordic ski program nestled in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado. We seek a Head Coach and Program Director to lead and grow our community-centered club. TSSC Nordic has grown quickly over the past several seasons, and its junior racers now compete throughout the Rocky Mountain Division, including Junior National Qualifiers. Based in Telluride, Colorado, the club wants a coach who can develop that group across technique, fitness, and racecraft — and keep kids in the sport for the long haul.
Position Overview: The Program Director reports to the TSSC Executive Director and the Junior Nordic Advisory Committee. The Program Director confers approval from TSSC for annual coaching budget and payroll. The Program Director manages, schedules, provides oversight and assistance to Head Coaches and Coaching Staff. The Program Director ensures all coaches have adequate licensing, education; plans coach trainings and coaching camps. The Program Director is also expected to coach at the Development level or higher.
Compensation:
- Season: October through March
- Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, with potential to grow into a full-time role
- Travel: Some travel is required for races
- Compensation: $15,000–$25,000 depending on experience
Key Responsibilities:
The Program director must
- Point person and responsible party for Race Program
- Maintains leadership presence throughout program

- coordinate pre-season parent meeting and rental programs
- Coordinate volunteer activities with volunteer coordinator
- be present at all Junior Nordic functions
- negotiate and enforce annual coach contracts
- Design and implement athlete training programs with Head Coaches
- Develop and coordinate coaching staff, including hiring and training of program coaches
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers
- On-snow coaching of athletes
- JNQ and JN Event Planning, Management and Coaching
- Manage program budget, scheduling, and race logistics
- Attends and participates in JN Advisory Committee planning meetings
- Weekly communications with Race staff, athletes and families
- Build community partnerships and support fundraising efforts
- Maintain US Ski & Snowboard coaching license, SafeSport, and CPR certifications
